Rev. Dr. L. Tsanso
If I tell you that a half-truth is a whole lie and a liar isn’t believed even when he speaks the truth but a lie is the refuge of weakness and that man of courage is not afraid of the truth but a lie travels around the world while truth is putting her boots on because all lies are not told—some are lived, would you believe it?
If I affirms that all sin is a kind of lying and all falsehoods not only disagree with truths, but usually quarrel among themselves nevertheless he who tells a lie is forced to invent twenty more to maintain it because it is almost always through fear of being criticized that people tell lies because they do not want to be lied about so they lie, would you agree?
If I insist that lies can be so furbished and disguised in gorgeous wrappings that not a soul would recognize their skinny carcasses because much speaking and lying are cousins why because no man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar one lie gives birth to another, would you buy the idea?
If I preach that sin has many tools, but a lie is the handle that fits them all and the cruelest lies are often told in silence because the essence of lying is in deception, not in words; a lie may be told by silence, by equivocation, by the accent on a syllable, by a glance of the eye attaching a peculiar significance to a sentence because the rope of a lie is short, then would you be converted to truth?
If I warned you that the punishment of a liar is that the people do not believe him even when he speaks the truth and who lies of or for you will lie against you and you can best reward a liar by believing nothing of what he says, then would you please renounce lying and be truthful?
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me…”
The word truth is used by Jesus in John 22 times and only 4 times by Him in the other gospels. He is the truth of God that sets free (John 8:32-36; John 14:6). He is the teacher and source of truth (Matthew 22:16; Mark 12:14; John 1:14,17). Believe him and He will set you free from all lies.
