Nagaland State Minister for Higher and Technical Education and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state President, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer on Sunday said that there is a need for the Naga and non-Naga communities living in the state to be united in peace.

He also called for recognition that the progress made in the state was a collective effort through contributions from all sections.

Speaking during the 9th felicitation programme of the community toppers and meritorious students by Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj here at Durga Mandir Hall, Dimapur, Longkumer said that in Nagaland everyone should have the opportunity to grow, feel secure, and make progress. The Minister added that while most non-locals here are business owners, he would like to see them in other sectors too, including in the legislative assembly as there is an unreserved (general) seat (Dimapur-1 A/C).

Longkumer meanwhile said that Nagaland has tremendous scope of making progress but it is still lagging behind due to limitations of the people. He stated that Nagas can learn much from others as well. We might look different and have different cultures, but in our hearts and minds, we are the same, he said.

He also called for cultural exchange and asked the attendants to not remain boxed up in Dimapur alone but display their culture to other interior parts of the state too, and in a similar way, Nagas should not remain in Nagaland alone but take the Naga culture to other parts of the country.

“We are proud to be together,” he said, and added that the people of Nagaland should trust each other.

Advising the students to work hard, he said that nothing would hold back those who have goals and patience. He further asked students from the community to talk about Nagaland and remember the state when they go outside.

Earlier, Dimapur DC, Kevekha Kevin Zehol in his address said all that the students need are within them and they can be anything. He narrated the story of Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to scale Mount Everest, and said that she despite having no legs made it to the top of Everest by sheer will power.

During the ceremony, students who cleared their HSLC and HSSLC examinations 2019, were honoured alongwith various civil societies and eminent personalities. It was also dotted with numerous cultural performances.
