Dimapur, October 17 (MexN): The Nagaland Law Students Federation on October 6 had filed an RTI on the implementation of Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension. The RTI was filed in a bid to draw some light on the matter for the information of all concern and for judicious implementation of the scheme.
The federation stated that as per the data report from the Directorate of Social Welfare, about 1,20,000 are the identified deserving beneficiaries in the state but the centre has sanctioned for only 47,000 beneficiaries till date, which shows huge bulk of beneficiaries were leaved unattended.
The federation in a press note issued by its president Kehounei-U Thernuo and assistant general secretary B.Meyikangzuk Phom stated: “…Federation makes its stance clear that the exercise pertains to public importance and does not bear any element whatsoever that could defame anyone but rather a clarion call for the public good. While expressing deep concern on the irregularities on the scheme it also appeal the state Government concern to take timely measure and pressurize the centre that the scheme is fully implemented in need based in the state.”
The note stated that the central norms of the scheme has fixed Rs. 300 per month for every beneficiary of 60-79 years and Rs. 600 per month for every 80 years and above all for the period of 12 months, but much to the contrary in the state per month every 60-79 years are entitled for Rs. 200 and 80 years and above for Rs. 500 for the period of only 10 months was released during the year 2011-2012.
Also, the federation undertook a scrutiny on beneficiary documents of a district and it was found that many beneficiaries were under aged which are totally against the norms and were availing the scheme till date. It further informed that the state share of Rs. 100 per month to all the beneficiaries in addition to the existing rate has not been accredited till.
