
Dimapur, July 5 (MExN): Three-member team from Nagaland participated in the cross border exposure and learning trip to Myanmar and Thailand regarding human trafficking issues from June 15-22. Organized by the Impulse NGO Network based in Shillong, the trip delegation included police officers, lawyers, and members of civil societies from various states of North East India.
According to a press release, Impulse NGO Network has been working towards addressing human trafficking in the North East and neighbouring countries Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. It has developed the Impulse Model, which brings stakeholders from law enforcement agencies, lawyers, CSOs, public and private sector under one umbrella to respond to human trafficking cases effectively and efficiently through the software The Impulse Case Info Centre (ICIC).
The trip comprised of the entities that supported the Impulse Model and the agenda primarily aimed at sharing of experiences with the Model to build linkages between the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the North East India and the Anti Trafficking Taskforce of Myanmar for efficient repatriation of human trafficking survivors from both counties, the release said.
Consultations were held at Nay Pyi Taw on developing Standard Operating Procedures in addressing cross border human trafficking between India and Myanmar. The trip included imparting of training on the use of ICIC software to the Anti Trafficking Taskforce of Myanmar for efficient coordination in combating cross border human trafficking. The team also visited the Thai-Myanmar border in Myawaddy to observe the on-ground operations between Thailand and Myanmar in checking cross border human trafficking.
The trip ended in Bangkok, Thailand after meeting with the Anti-Trafficking in Person Division, Royal Thai Police to understand their approach towards human trafficking and explore the support mechanisms they adopt for implementing the MoU signed between Thailand and Myanmar to prevent human trafficking, the release added. The team also met with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime which has been supporting the Impulse Model.
The team from Nagaland comprised of Shouka Kakheto, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Dimapur, Igwangheing Hemang, Additional SP, Kohima, and Chenithung Humtsoe, Chief Functionary of Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, Nagaland.
