Mokokchung, May 8 (MExN): IRCS Mokokchung District Branch Chairman and Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS today stated that humanitarian work is “a collective movement which cannot be done alone.”
He said this as the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Mokokchung District Branch observed International World Red Cross Day under the theme “United for Humanity” at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s office on May 8.
The DC spoke on the significance of the day and stated that International World Red Cross Day marks the birth anniversary of Jean Henri Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Referring to this year’s theme, Verma said “United for Humanity” encourages “contribution, dedication, commitment and faith to humanity by an individual” and highlighted how even small initiatives can make a difference to human civilisation.
During the programme, Junior Red Cross members from Queen Mary Higher Secondary School and Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School shared their experiences as Junior Red Cross members.
The programme was chaired by Alemyanger, IRCS Life Member, while the welcome address was delivered by Dr S S Akaba Longchar, IRCS Honorary Secretary. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Tiasunep, Chief Medical Officer.
