Despite inclement weather, hundreds of villagers from eight villages and Mon town attended the free medical camp organized and sponsored by Department of Under Developed Areas (DUDA) held at DIET centre in C Goching village, some 5 kms from Mon town.
A total of 606 patients including 402 females and 204 males were treated for various ailments and free medicines were distributed to them. Besides, 14 hearing aids were also given to the hearing impaired.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the medical camp, Advisor, DUDA, N Thongwang Konyak, in his speech said the medical camp was conducted at the right time as the months June to August was a season where people in rural areas are prone to sickness due to rains and change of season. Thongwang also said this was the season where villagers can hardly afford to get medical treatment or buy medicines as they have eaten up most of their food stocks and toiling hard to reap the next harvest.
He lauded DUDA officials and staff for conducting the free medical camp, which he said would immensely benefit the public and villagers under Mon sardar. Urging the public to make best use of the camp, the DUDA advisor at the same time reminded that the ultimate healer is God, and therefore prayer becomes important to both the patients and doctors.
DUDA officials led by their commissioner & secretary, L Kire, IFS, director KS Anden Konyak and joint director, Dr. Anungla Imdong Phom, supervised and assisted the doctors in smooth conduct of the free medical camp. Joint secretary, Municipal Affairs and president of Nagaland Civil Service Association (NCSA), Kevin Zehol, also accompanied the DUDA team.
The doctors of the DUDA medical camp included Dr. Watsutho Nyuthe (senior specialist, NHAK), Dr. Zimatho Nyusou, (ENT specialist NHAK), Dr. S Manyau Phom (SMO, CHC Medziphema), Dr. Aman Konyak (gynaecologist, Civil Hospital Mon), Dr. Chimang Paul Konyak (paediatrician, Civil Hospital Mon), Dr. Wungyong Konyak (MD general medicine, Civil Hospital Mon) and CMO, Civil Hospital Mon, Dr. UK Konyak, C Goching village council chairman, in his welcome address also thanked DUDA department for conducting the medical camp in the village Director, DUDA, KS Anden Konyak, chaired the inaugural programme.
