Kohima, January 23 (MExN): I Temjenba Longkümer, Kedallo, Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), passed away Tuesday morning at a private hospital in Kohima. 

The 89-year-old national workers, hailing from Longkhum village under Mokokchung district, joined the Naga National Council (NNC) in 1954 and became the Naga Youth Information Officer in 1955. He was the last surviving signatory of the Shillong Accord of 1975. 

It was informed that the mortal remains of the departed FGN Kedallo was taken to his native village after a funeral at Transit Peace Camp, Chedema, Kohima. 

Meanwhile, the NNC has expressed shock and sadness over the demise of Temjenba. 

He was a dedicated and committed national worker holding various capacities sacrificing his life wholeheartedly for the Naga Nation till his last breath, stated a condolence message from NNC President, AdinnoPhizo.

“His untimely death is a great loss for the Nation and Ao community in particular it is irreplaceable. His national service rendered to the Naga Nation will always remain in the history of the Nagas,” it said. 

Adinno, on behalf of the NNC conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and dear ones of late Temjenba

“May the Almighty God protect and guide them and grant solace at this hour of grief. May the soul of the departed leader rest in peace,” it added. 

The Joint Secretary NNC W Shapwon also mourned the death of Temjenba and shared his deep sorrow with sons, daughter, and relatives of the late Kedallo.

“He was the last survivor among the six signatories of the Shillong Accord and served the nation unwaveringly up to his last breath,”Shapwon stated in a condolence note. 

“Some of Nagas those who are self-centered persons condemned the signatories as traitors. But I admired them as heroes because they decided to restore peace and save Nagaland without any political commitment to surrender in those days of 1975 when the Indian Army heavily surrounded Nagaland to make the Nagas surrender,” he asserted.

Besides, “even imposter leaders”used to term the Shillong Accord as ‘the infamous Accord’, but I ‘thank God that He used the Accord and saved Naga nation from complete capitulation,’ he added. 

“These wonderful works of God were tirelessly narrated to the young generation of today by I TemjenbaLongkümer, the last survivor of the signatories and it is in history now,”the Joint Secretary further noted, adding that though he is no more, his legacy would remain forever from generation to generation.

“I pray that may his soul rest in peace with our Lord Jesus Christ and grant comfort to his family members and relatives at the hour of solitude,” he added.
