ICAR-KVK Dimapur empowers farmers in oilseeds production

Dimapur, June 19 (MExN): Training cum input distribution programme was conducted at ICAR-KVK Dimapur, Jharnapani under the Cluster Front Line Distribution on Oilseeds, CFLD on Oilseeds (Oilseeds Model Village) and Seed Village on June 18. The programme was attended by 60 farmers from Sunito, Hevikhe, Dhansiripar, Daniel, Yeveto, Togukha and S Vihoto villages under Chümoukedima and Niuland districts. 

The programme was graced by Vithwel Kweho, Extra Additional Commissioner, Medziphema as the chief guest along with Kevin Solo, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Chümoukedima as a special invitee.

Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK Dimapur addressed the gathering with welcome address. 

A brief note on the training programme was delivered by Dr Bendangla Imsong, Chief technical Officer, KVK Dimapur. She highlighted the objectives of the programme. This CFLD programme covers 40 hectares in the Chümoukedima and Niuland districts. 20 hectares will be covered as a part of CFLD on oilseeds and 10 hectares each will be under Oilseeds Model Village and Seed Village respectively. The programme is a collaborative initiative to increase the productivity of oilseeds in the state as well to produce the soybean seeds in a large scale. 

Later, she also explained the scientific method of soybean cultivation in the technical session. 

Vithwel Kweho in his speech emphasized the importance of enhancing productivity and marketing of soybean in the state. He also encouraged the farmers to take help from the experts wherever the farmers needed. He encouraged the farmers to do scientific cultivation of soybean to enhance productivity and preserve soil health without deteriorating and also focus on the scope of value addition. 

Importance of the training programme was highlighted by Kevin Solo, SDAO, Chümoukedima. He elaborated the technical know-how of soybean cultivation and encouraged the farmers to consult experts from KVK and State Departments whenever the farmers faced any problems during the cultivation of soybean.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS (Home Science) and vote of thanks proposed by Dr Moanaro, Technical Officer, KVK Dimapur.

As a part of the training, an input distribution was also held where soyabean seeds and organic manure was distributed to farmers.
