Phek, December 18 (MExN): The ICAR-KVK Phek (ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema) organised a training-cum-awareness programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPV&FRA), New Delhi. The programme was sponsored by PPV&FRA, Government of India.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head gave the welcome address. He delivered a lecture on the role of the PPV&FRA and significance of protecting and registering farmers' varieties.
During the programme, the following lectures were delivered- Farmers Variety Protection through PPVFRA by Dr T Esther Longkumer, Importance of Farmers' Variety and Registration process, by Dr Hannah K Asangla and Promoting Biodiversity in Horticultural Crops through PPV&FRA by Manjunath K S.
Local crop varieties from different blocks of Phek district were showcased at a Biodiversity Fair. The process of registering farmers' varieties was initiated with the support of KVK officials. A farmers-scientist interaction session was also held.
