
Chümoukedima, October 21 (MExN): The ICAR Research Complex for the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region, Nagaland Centre, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur and the District Agriculture Office, Chümoukedima, launched an 'Oil Seed Village' initiative at Doyapur village on Thursday.
The programme aims to develop a seed village for the production of quality seeds of toria and linseed to meet the growing demand in Dimapur and adjoining districts, a release said. The initiative seeks to enhance oilseed productivity and improve farmers' livelihoods through scientific seed production, it said.
Dr H Kalita, Joint Director of ICAR Nagaland Centre, encouraged farmers to adopt scientific methods and transform Doyapur into a hub for quality seed production, urging them to view it as a profitable enterprise.
District Agriculture Officer Moainla Pongen highlighted the benefits of the seed village concept, while Dr Harendra Verma (Plant Breeding & Genetics) stressed the importance of maintaining genetic purity and procuring seeds from reliable sources.
Dr Akshay Ujjwal (Agronomy) shared best agronomic practices for achieving higher yields.
Around 35 farmers, local leaders, and officials attended the event. The farmers expressed gratitude for the initiative and pledged to adopt the recommended practices, the release said.
As part of the initiative, two quintals of foundation seeds of toria (TS-38, TS-67) and linseed (LSL-93) were distributed to the participants.
