Kalyani, December 13 (MExN): A one-day training program on ‘Scientific Livestock Farming for Scheduled Caste Farmers’ was conducted at ICAR-NDRI, ERS, Kalyani, as part of the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) initiative. The event was jointly organized by ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland, and ICAR-NDRI, ERS, Kalyani, with the aim of equipping farmers from Birbhum, North 24 Parganas, and Nadia districts with scientific livestock management practices.

As a key highlight of the program, 21 male bucks and 10 female Black Bengal goats were distributed to farmers under the SCSP scheme. The initiative aims to improve the genetic stock of livestock at the field level, boost productivity, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers in these regions.

The program was spearheaded by Dr. Narendra V. N., Scientist and SCSP In-Charge, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, and Dr. Ajoy Mondal, Principal Scientist and SCSP In-Charge, ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani, with additional support from Dr. Santanu Banik, Head of ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani.
