Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): A one-day workshop to raise awareness among farmers and educate youth about animal breeding rights in order to conserve and propagate animal genetic resources was held under the initiative of the Intellectual Property and Technology Management Unit (ITMU) of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema on July 14.
A total of 70 people, including farmers from Sosonoma, Seithekema, and Medziphema villages, along with students and faculty from St Joseph University and Patkai Christian College attended the workshop.
According to a press release on Friday, the workshop was conducted on the topic ‘Conservation of indigenous livestock and poultry resources of Nagaland’ with resource persons Dr Bhabesh Milli and Dr Merina Devi, Assistant Professor from the College of Veterinary Science, Jalukie. They spoke on conservation of pig and poultry genetic resources for propagation in the north-eastern hilly region, it said.
Another speaker, Dr Mahek Singh, Scientist, Animal Reproduction, gave a detailed deliberation on the growth and propagation of pig farming in the region while Tiarenla, Sanction Manager at SBI RACC, Dimapur gave a presentation on different banking schemes for livestock farming to promote income generation among farmers.
