MEDZIPHEMA, AUGUST 7 (MExN): The ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRCM), Medziphema, Nagaland, conducted a two-day hands-on training programme on meat and milk processing for members of GRDT Farmers Agrovet Pvt Ltd, Silchar, Assam, from August 4 to 5.
The GRDT team, led by Bapan Das along with four members, participated in practical sessions on value-added meat processing, including the preparation of meat pickles, hygienic packaging, and related techniques.

As part of the training, the participants also visited the ICAR-NRCM’s poultry and piggery units, where they received hands-on exposure to scientific backyard poultry rearing and piggery management practices.
The programme concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ICAR-NRCM and GRDT Farmers Agrovet Pvt Ltd to jointly establish a Meat Processing Extension Hub in Hailakandi district, Assam. The initiative aims to benefit marginalised Scheduled Caste farmers and local communities by promoting skill development in meat value addition and entrepreneurship.

Under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP), ICAR-NRCM also provided essential processing equipment—such as a meat grinder, mixer grinder, and bowl chopper—to support the establishment of the proposed farmer-oriented meat processing unit.
