Kiphire, October 28 (MExN): An awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was conducted at the GA Rest House, Pungro, Kiphire on October 28. The event was organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in collaboration with the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, and the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Government of Nagaland.
According to a DIPR report, the programme aimed to educate local entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), cooperative societies, and business communities on the importance of intellectual property rights, patents, trademarks, and innovation protection, particularly in sectors like handloom, handicrafts, and food processing.
A presentation on “MSME Innovative Scheme & Role of Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre (IPFC)” was delivered by Assistant Director (NER), Indian Chamber of Commerce, Guwahati, PranjalBarua. He elaborated on the various MSME schemes supporting innovation and detailed how Intellectual Property Right can serve as a vital tool for protecting and monetizing creative and business ideas.
Participants included representatives from various organizations such as Saramati Area Farmers’ Producers Company Ltd.; SaramatiBeru Area Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.; SholunrüBeru Cooperative Society; PsykhadzüBüfur Cooperative Society; Lhüv Craft by Moya, and the Pungro Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Village Level Organisations (VLOs) from several villages - including Pungro, Jenty, Salomi, Luthur, Moya, Vongti, Phuvkiu, Zhimkiur, and Mongtsuwong participated in the event.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where participants raised queries and shared local business experiences. The awareness initiative is expected to enhance understanding of intellectual property among rural entrepreneurs and foster a culture of innovation in the Pungro sub-division.
