Dimapur, November 22 (MExN): As a tribute to late Prof CP Alexander, who was the Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University Nagaland (IUN), the department of Computer Science and its BCA batch of 2017-20, dedicated a first of its kind ‘Touch Screen Digital Interactive KIOSK’ during the first death anniversary memorial service, held at the university’s auditorium on November 21.
According to updates from the University, late Prof Alex, as he was commonly known, was remembered as an academician, educator, philosopher, and a good administrator, whose dream to be an astrophysicist or interest in Artificial Intelligence was known only to a few. It said he often shared his desire to have a talking machine or a robot which can give information about IUN.
“To fulfill his dream, the faculty of Computer Science department and the BCA 6 Semester students planned, designed and developed a Touch Screen Digital Interactive KIOSK which will give information at a mere touch of the finger,” the release stated.
As per the release, the system is custom designed and has a 32 inch LED Monitor of IR touch screen overlay which is imported from Switzerland, and an Asus G45 mother board. The system is able to give information related to ICFAI University Nagaland, like faculty information, admission, courses offered, events and other activities, weather and traffic information of Dimapur, it said.
Apart from the application designed by the students, it said that anyone can interact with the system to get information, play YouTube videos and music, open and browse social media and a lot more.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the students faced several hardships and discouragement in completing the project, but by the grace of God and with dedication, determination and hard work under the guidance of the mentors, the project came to light well in time, the release stated.
“This project was completely funded by the students showing their love and respect for the great teacher, Sir Alex,” it added.
