ICFAI University celebrates National Librarian’s Day

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): The Department of Library & Information Science jointly with NJY Memorial Library commemorated the National Librarian’s Day on the theme of ‘Information Access’ at ICFAI University Nagaland on August 12.


The National Librarian’s Day is celebrated across India in remembrance of Dr SR Ranganathan, Father of Documentation Science, Library and Information Science on his birthday anniversary, informed a press release from the ICFAI University Nagaland.


The morning session was conducted with the brief presentation on the importance of National Librarian’s Day and the concept behind commemorating the event by the HoD, Department of Library & Information Science, and a talk on ‘Open Access to information’ by Dr. ARD Prasad, Former Head and Professor, Documentation Research and Training Center, Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore was presented on a digital platform.


The second session was a Webinar with live cast interactive sessions delivered by various experts in the field from across India on the respective topics: ‘Sections in Library with focus on IT and databases’ Srinivas Gurrala. Technical Officer, Technical Library, Air India Express Mumbai; ‘Open source software and application in Libraries’ Kanu Chakraborty, Assistant Librarian, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi.


Motivation talk on the profession of LIS and on providing reliable and accurate information service was delivered by Shiva Shankar Mahato, Assistant Librarian, Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) Pune.


The programme was attended by Information Professionals and Librarians from Unity College Dimapur, Immanuel College Dimapur, Pranabananda Women’s College Dimapur, ICFAI University Nagaland besides teaching faculties and students of other Departments in the University. Kelel Theyo, Assistant Librarian, NJY Memorial Library pronounced the vote of thanks and encouraged the participants to take the learning experience from the programme further in their career.
