ICSSR prog on research methodology for Ph.D students

Kohima, May 26 (MExN): A ten day Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored Research Methodology for Ph.D students in Social Sciences programme which started on May 16 concluded on Friday at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus Meriema, with  Prof N Venuh, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences as the chief guest.  

Welcoming the gathering, Dr Rakesh Rai, Head i/c, Department of Teacher Education, Nagaland University expressed hope that the 10 day methodology course for research scholars from social sciences had served its purpose of orienting young scholars to various methodologies of research.  

The valedictory programme was chaired by Surendra Yadav, Asst Professor, Department of Teacher Education, NU. The chief guest in his valedictory address noted that research is a challenging venture and research scholars have to go through many obstacles and face frustrations but that one should have a positive attitude, find the right balance and not give up. He apprised the young scholars that research should not be one sided and also that one should have the right approach and attitude in dealing with sensitive cases like HIV/AIDS, Child Abuse and so on. He also reminded the gathering that research has to be beneficial for society and that it should contribute positively to the society.  

Dr. M. Rajendra Nath Babu, Course Director reported that there were a total of 32 participants from different 9 states across the country. A total of 32 lectures on various topics were delivered by 18 resource persons. He reported that other highlights of the programme included hands-on MS Excel and Statistical package for social sciences and a one day exposure cum field trip to Khonoma.  

On behalf of the participants, four people gave feedback where they maintained that the 10 day programme had opened their eyes on diverse research methodologies and expressed gratitude to the Nagaland University for organising such a programme.  

Certificates and course materials were given away by the chief guest of the Programme, Prof N Venuh, Dean of Social Sciences, Nagaland University and Prof Lungsang Zeliang, HoD, Education, Nagaland University.  

Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rajendra Nath Babu, Course Director. The programme was jointly organised by Department of Education and Department of Teacher Education, Nagaland University.
