Kohima, November 24 (MExN): A ten-day Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored Research Methodology Training Course for Ph.D students in Social Sciences programme was held from November 14 to 23. The inaugural programme was held at Ladies Common Room, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema.


The main objective of the workshop was to give exposure on research methodology and data analysis to research scholars. To create opportunities for participants to interact and clarify doubts on research related issues from the resource persons.


Different topics of research methodology were taught through different pedagogical tools like lectures, hands-on training on computer software, assignments to write research proposal, designing instrument for data collection and field work for data collection. The participants were required to make presentations and submit a report at the end of the workshop.


The training programme was to build up knowledge of young researchers and scholars in the areas of  Nature of Scientific Methods and its Application to Education& Nature, Importance and Scope of Educational Research, Review of related literature, Types of Research: Historical, Analytical, Interdisciplinary, Evaluative, Descriptive Survey, Experimental and Action Research, Types of Research Design: Exploratory, Diagnostic, Descriptive, Types of Research Design: Experimental; Control Group & Experimental Group; Ex-Post Facto Research Design, Concepts in Research: Variables, Attributes etc.


More than 150 applications were applied for the workshop. The organizing committee selected 33 candidates based on the stream, merit wise and category wise.  


In the inaugural programme, the chairperson was Dr Surendra Yadav, Department of Teacher Education. Professor M Aleminla Ao, Pro-Vice- Chancellor, Nagaland University was the chief guest, while the guest of honor was Professor Buno Liegise, Dean i/c School of Humanities & Education, NU, Kohima Campus. The orientation about the workshop was given by Dr M Rajendra Nath Babu, Department of Teacher Education, Nagaland University. Vote of thanks was proposed by Sibuile, Department of Teacher Education,   Nagaland University. 


The states and universities that participated in the workshop were Nagaland - Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Nagaland University, Lumami, St Joseph University; Meghalaya - NEHU; Sikkim -Sikkim University; Arunachal Pradesh - RGU; Assam - Assam University, Don Bosco University, Guwahati University, Tezpur University; Mizoram - Mizoram University; Manipur - Manipur University; Madhya Pradesh - IGNTU. There were 19 resource persons for the 10-day workshop.
