Kohima, June 25 (MExN): Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) in collaboration with Medanta - The Medicity conducted a free medical camp for Government officers and staff at IDAN office, Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on June 25.
A team of specialists and doctors from Medanta Group of Hospitals, Gurugram, was available for private consultations, featuring an oncologist, cardiologist, and general practitioners. The camp also offered various health screenings, including blood pressure monitoring, random blood sugar testing, ECG (based on doctor’s recommendation), Bone Mineral Density test, and Pulmonary Function Test, according to a DIPR report.
Earlier, the event was formally inaugurated by Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer as the chief guest. In his speech, addressing broader challenges, Longkumer highlighted the severe healthcare limitations in Nagaland, particularly the lack of specialized care, and stressed the critical need for preventive measures to reduce the cancer burden in the state and to spread awareness about cancer.
He praised Nagaland’s admirable human resource index and the enthusiasm of its young population, advocating for health to be prioritized with increased investment.
Meanwhile, Longkumer highlighted how the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), is “providing accessible, affordable, top quality healthcare facilities to all the citizens of Nagaland.”
He expressed gratitude to the officers and staff of the State Government for their pivotal contributions in shaping this insurance scheme. He shared his personal testimony, highlighting the practical benefits of CMHIS, including a cashless and charge-free experience at a reputed healthcare centre. He acknowledged the role of government officials and staff as the driving force behind the implementation of the state’s policies and programs, underscoring the health benefits extended to government employees.
He also referenced the Chairman and Managing Director of Vedanta Hospital, Dr Naresh Trehan and reiterated the hospital’s mission to deliver world class medical expertise, cutting-edge technology and comprehensive healthcare services to the North-East region.
He concluded by thanking the organizers for bringing essential healthcare services to those in need and encouraged all government officials to avail all the services provided in today’s medical camp.
Earlier, a welcome speech was delivered by Under Secretary, IDAN, I Changsang which was followed by context setting by Vice President of Medanta Group, Tarun Majumdar, who highlighted the camp’s objectives. He stated that this partnership between Medanta Hospital and IDAN was aimed in making healthcare facilities more accessible to Nagaland and in reinforcing a commitment to improving public health in the North East region. He also noted that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) is in place with the Government of Nagaland and Medanta for providing the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Head of Northeast India Strategy at Medanta, Rohan Abraham.
