‘Ignite friendship through culture’

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): NEISSR celebrated its 6th fresher’s day coinciding with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People on August 9.
To honour the day, seniors organized a welcoming feast with dance and songs by enacting the ‘Morung’ as a way of promoting own cultures based on the theme ‘Ignite friendship through culture.’ Fresher in the best of their traditional attires attended the function, Meriakthulie, PRO, NEISSR stated in a press release.
NEISSR, Principal, Dr. Fr CP Anto addressing the students emphasized on the purpose of life and how NEISSR translates them into three cultures: the culture of happiness; the culture of peace and; the culture of health.
“The culture of happiness is to be authentically happy oneself and make others happy. Happiness is not measured and attributed to the material aspects of life alone but from a sense of authentic fulfillment of the human needs. The culture of peace begins with respect for all lives and dignity of human beings without any discrimination. It comes through reconciliation. And the culture of health is to living a healthy lifestyle,” he stated.
Dr. Anto also encouraged the students promoting culture of happiness, peace and health as their social and political responsibilities by quoting from Antonio Gramsci “The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born.”
The programme was hosted by students of 3rd semester, Kakito Chophy and Gwangzeule. Invocation was offered by Rev. Fr. John Poji, Vice Principal and Administrator, NEISSR followed by welcome song from the 3rd semester students. Welcome note was given by Angam Phom, President of Student’s Council, NEISSR. A special song was presented by the fresher’s and Newtoli G. Chishi of MSW 1st semester delivered speech on behalf of the fresher’s. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Nuvotolu, Cultural Secretary NEISSR followed by NEISSR anthem.
