IHRC condemn Ganeshnagar Quarantine Centre incident

Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): The International Human Rights Council- Nagaland State Board (IHRC) has condemned the ‘use of unnecessary brutal force’ on returnees lodged at the Ganeshnagar Quarantine Centre (QC), Dimapur, by the Police personnel on June 22.

In a press release, the IHRC Nagaland State Board President and Working President demanded that the state government “immediately set up SIT and punished the culprits who have resorted to use of barbaric force on the innocent armless inmates of Quarantine Centre at Ganeshnagar.”

It said that the Nagaland Police stationed at Ganeshnagar cannot absolve themselves of their “illegal brutal act” and claimed that the same police personnel have verbally threatened the returnees not to expose the incident.

As such, the IHRC Nagaland stated that action should be taken against the personnel on duty.

Further, it claimed that in the case of Nagaland, COVID-19 test reports “are given in bulk paper sheet where several names are listed.” It said that this is against privacy of those who test positive, and as such, urged the Government of Nagaland to maintain discreetness in giving individual finding reports.
