Dimapur, December 11 (MExN): Following the December 9 rape of a girl in Tuli by a man of Bangladeshi origin, “illegal immigrants” in Mokokchung are ordered out by the Ao Students’ Conference to leave the district by December 15. An enraged Ao Students’ Conference warned that it shall not be held responsible for any loss of life or property of “those perpetrators”.
A brief but incensed note from the AKM’s executives today said, the beastly act is not ‘forgettable’ and will not be forgiven. The students expressed severe condemnation for the rape of a nine year old girl in Tuli by one Song Ali “of Bangladeshi origin” in Tuli. “The AKM, while reaffirming its stand on the objective of Survival Mokokchung, has ordered the illegal immigrants to leave Ao land by 15th December, 2008 after which the students’ body will not be responsible for the loss of life and property of those perpetrators” the AKM stated.
Time and again, the students’ body stated, awareness about the evil designs of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been on and the organization has kept warning of such sinister activities of the illegal immigrants. This cannot be written off, the AKM stated.
Sensing the danger in harboring illegal immigrants “who are not allowed to settle even in India”, the students’ body said, ‘Survival Mokokchung’ was started last year to flush them out. “The AKM, however, is displeased by the lackadaisical attitude of the general public in Mokokchung, particularly in places bordering Assam, due to which we are forced to face such ugly situation meted to our sisters” the AKM said.
The Ao students have made a clarion to one and all that it is in the Naga citizen’s self who would have to safeguard his land, life and social fabric from “the clutches of these illegal immigrants”.
Watsu Mungdang rush to Tuli
In connection with the reported rape, executives of the apex Ao women body, the Watsü Mungdang, led by its president Subongla Lemdor rushed down to Tuli to gather first-hand information on the incident today. They met the Tuli unit of the Watsü Mungdang, the local students’ body, the town council and other civic bodies.
The rape incident is reported to have happened at around 3:00 PM at Patizung Ward of Tuli town. According to Watsü sources, the rape victim is the daughter of a farmer from Yimchenkimong village under Tuli subdivision, of Mokokchung district, and has a younger sister and an elder brother. Her parents were out farming while their son had gone to their village.
The rapist, identified to be one Song Ali, about 25 years and of Bangladeshi origin, paid Rs.5 to the younger sister, a 4-year old girl, and persuaded her to go to a nearby shop. It was then that he raped the minor, according to Watsü Mungdang sources. It was also said that the rapist threatened to kill the girl if she informed her parents about the rape.
Quite disturbingly, the rapist, a cattle trader is said to have been doing his business under the guardianship of the victim’s father, for which the Watsü Mungdang expressed regret.
Watsü also said that the rapist was engaged in the business without an ILP. Watsü executives expressed dismay at how the police were manning the check posts at the border. The Watsü president said that the SDPO and the OC of the Tuli police station were not in office when they went to meet them, and that they could not be located anywhere in Tuli today. Supongla also expressed inability to understand how the perpetrator could be taken to Mokokchung even before an FIR was lodged at the Tuli police station.
According to some other reliable sources, the Tuli unit of Watsü Mungdang and the students’ body would be staging a silent procession on December 13. The Watsü Mungdang has reiterated their support to the AKM’s Survival Mokokchung campaign, the initiative to drive out illegal immigrants from Mokokchung.
Meanwhile, it was learnt from AKM sources that the perpetrator is in police custody at the district Jail in Mokokchung. Following this incident, the AKM is reported to be gearing up for an intensive district-wide campaign against illegal immigrants as well as their local guarantors. The AKM has once again spelled out December 15, 2008 as the last date for any illegal immigrant to leave the “Ao Land” after which the students’ body shall not be responsible for any loss of life and property “of the perpetrators”.
