Illegal coal trucks nabbed in Meghalaya

Acting on a tip off, Rongram police outpost in West Garo Hills (WGH) on July 16 apprehended 2 trucks "illegally" carrying coal from the town of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills (EGH) to Damalgre in South West Garo Hills (SWGH).

The trucks were caught near the village of Oragitok while it was on its way at about 1:30 am.

According to the police, at around 1:30 am, the IC of Rongram received credible information of two trucks transporting coal "illegally" on the old Williamnagar Road.

“Accordingly, patrolling was conducted and the trucks were seized. A case has also been registered. On being questioned the drivers revealed that the trucks were hired by on Chekan Marak of Williamnagar. He is currently absconding,” said superintendent of police of West Garo Hills (WGH), Dr MGR Kumar.

Investigation is currently on to ascertain further details and for further necessary action, according to the police officer.
