Illegal construction causes drain blockage

Dimapur | June 11

A brick-partitioned construction in the middle of a drain at GS Road near New Market entrance has been causing free flow of drain on various occasions.

Following a verbal complaint from some residents of Ward no 17 and 18 about stagnant drainage in their area, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) workers on Sunday partially demolished the structure beneath the footpath above the drain. After the exercise, the sewage flow somewhat improved, however, a portion of the structure still remains causing complete free flow of sewage.

There are several similar structures at different locations in the municipal area causing smooth flow of sewage. The DMC has been trying its best to facilitate smooth drainage but the public continues to dump solid wastes into drains despite repeated appeals from the municipal body to desist from such practices.
