Illegal drug factory busted in Manipur

Manipur police has made yet another major breakthrough when they busted illegal drug factory, allegedly manufacturing Brown Sugar, at Lilong in Thoubal district on Saturday, police said.

 

The police recovered a huge quantity of suspected Heroin (Brown Sugar) which would worth over Rs 100 crore in the international market along with chemicals like Ammoniurm Chioride, Lime etc. as well as equipment and tools suspected to be used in the manufacture of Brown Sugar, the police added.

 

According to the police, the recovered Brown Sugar include 183.99 kg of suspected Brown Sugar powder in plastic sacks and 580 gram of similar powder in one black polythene bag, 74.9 gram in paste form, 35.3 kg of suspected chemical labelled as Star Brand Lime and three plastic bottles of chemical labelled as Himedia- Ammonium Chloride.

 

The tools recovered during the operation were one wooden pressing board machine, one metal clamp machine, three plastic drums, one large aluminium tub, two plastic tubs, one rubber hand glove, one gas stove and four pieces of clothes.

 

A strong team of Thoubal district police led by additional SP (Operations) Sachidananda Soibam busted the illegal factory during a raid at a house in Thoubal district. The house owner has been arrested and a case has been registered against him at Thoubal police station, the police also said.

 

Saturday's operation busting the illegal drug factory was the second time in less than two months.

 

On June 30 this year, a similar factory was busted by the police at Lilong Dam under Lilong police station of the same district wherein 111.2 kg of brown sugar, worth over Rs 100 crore in the international market, was seized.

 

In can be noted here that police officers and personnel involved in the busting of the factory on June 30 were rewarded by N Biren Singh-led BJP’s coalition government, declaring war on drugs in the state since the very inception of the BJP led government in March 20017.

 

The police officers were also honored with the 'Chief Minister’s Medal' during the 73rd Independence Day celebration on August 15.
