Illegal practices in LRSO department: NLSF alleges

Kohima, May 18 (MExN):  The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation said that it has been notified of instances where ‘some officials from the Land Record and Survey Office are arbitrarily charging fees for land verification/ spot verification’ for the purpose of obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOC), Jamabandi, land holding certificates, etc.

“The Government Officials are expected to discharge duties in a courteous manner and with integrity while dealing with the general public, however, some officials on the pretext of speeding up the process, charges fees amounting to few thousands from the public thereby taking pecuniary advantage over the general public which is violative of the service rules,” the Media and Publicity Wing, NLSF stated in a press release on Wednesday.

Such illegal activities of the concerned officials are liable for prosecution under relevant sections of law, it added.

In this connection, the NLSF informed the public, especially those residing in cadastral areas, town areas or surveyed areas, not to pay any charges to the officials, aside from government prescribed fees. If any official is found indulging in such illegal activities, it should be reported to the higher authority for initiating necessary action against the delinquent officials, the NLSF stated. The NLSF officials can also be informed through the following numbers: 8119997222, 9612551127, or 9366054216, for taking the matter up with the competent authority for necessary disciplinary action, it informed.
