Kohima, June 18 (MExN): The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today reminded the Nagaland Chief Secretary about the ten-point memorandum submitted on April 4 and urged an update on the action taken.
The memo is explicit and addresses issues of the highest importance concerning the stringent enforcement of the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) in Nagaland, the Commission stated.
While noting that it does not intend to confront the government, the NSF nonetheless advised the authorities to take note of the “writing on the wall” concerning the consequences of the lackadaisical implementation of the ILR in Nagaland.
The NSF is of the considered opinion that stringent enforcement of the Inner Line Permit system is essential to the socio-economic security of the Nagas, it stated, while asserting that the federation is committed to endure “any hardship to achieve this security, especially for upcoming generations of Nagas.”
It further conveyed its readiness to extend full cooperation to the government if called upon, while firmly asserting that the NSF remains resolutely committed to the full implementation of the ILR provisions in Nagaland and will take all necessary measures to realise this objective.
Accordingly, it reiterated the demand for an update on the memo.
The April memo, among others, included the demand for the creation of a centralised database system for ILP issuance, establishment and strengthening of ILP check points, formation of an ILP enforcement wing, and wide sensitisation on the regulations.
