Imchen hopeful of containing crime

Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): Home Minister Imkong L Imchen was in Dimapur today for a coordination meeting with Dimapur police and top state police officers as well as  the Home Commissioner Y Kithan.

Briefing media persons after a closed-door meeting at the office of the Dimapur Superintendent of Police, Imchen said the meeting discussed at length the mechanisms ‘to be worked out’ to curb extortion, kidnapping and other crimes in Dimapur. The minister said the issue of ‘taxation’ by civic bodies in the state was also taken up. Imchen, however, refused to divulge the details of the meeting.

Stating that the state does not expect instant results, Imchen posed confidence and said the crimes will be contained in the process of implementation. For that to happen, he urged for cooperation and services from  the public. 

Imchen said that presently the Home department is running short of traffic personnel as well as women police. He hoped that the government will give necessary attention and address the problem. With regard to the village guards to be posted in border areas, the minister said the department is still awaiting clearance from three departments but will most likely be commissioned this year.

On the issue of taxation by municipal bodies, Imchen explained by what he said that it should be ‘regulated properly’ and should comply with the municipal Acts. The minister further reiterated that illegal taxation by various departments manning gates will be stopped, so as with mass civil organizations’.
