Mangmetong | April 28

The Imchen Kidong Mungdang (Imchen Clan Union) commemorated its 50th anniversary at Mangmetong village which was attended by about three hundred delegates from different Ao villages here today.

The Golden Jubilee celebration - which started from April 27 evening – was held on the theme ‘Penliro’ which roughly translates as ‘envisioning or towards the future’. During the conference, the history and the one ancestor of Imchen clan, his descendants, their migration over the whole Ao country was narrated by different elders and discussed at the programme.

Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Imkong L Imchen, who also spoke at the last session of the jubilee programme, underscored the unity and fraternity among the clansmen and expressed hope that the Union was established for that purpose also.

Underscoring the need to research the origin, history and chronology for clearly understanding ones roots, the minister said that the Imchen clan researching their own history ought to also accept the history of other clans. In the same vein, he said that others should also accept the research undertaken by the Imchen clan to assert their own ancestral lineage passed down through the ages.

He hoped that everybody would take the Imchen clan’s in the right perspective otherwise it would be quite unfortunate. Moreover, he encouraged the fraternity among the Imchen clansmen and the love they shared among each other and asked them to continue the love among the clan though they may belong to different villages.

Meanwhile, the Imchen Kidong Mungdang also adopted a five point resolution: the first resolution stated that Mungdang resolves to print the book about the migration of Imchen clan from Chungliyimti which was entrusted to a research committee. The office-bearers were empowered to rope in suitable persons so as to hasten the publication of the book.

Secondly, as resolved in the previous conference, the Imchen Kidong Mungdang resolved to facilitate history, their origin and migration of the Ao Mongsen before reaching Chungliyimti; the Mungdang resolved to render help in any manner towards that end.

The Mungdang also resolved to expedite the pending second edition of the book about the (Ao) Mongsen clan’s origin and lineage.

The Mungdang resolved to conserve and preserve the biodiversity and also resolved to construct a “Imchen Riju” (Imchen’s Hall) at Mokokchung town.

Meanwhile, the main speaker of the conference was Associate pastor KABA, Sentisashi Aier. Ex-MLA Nungsangyapang Aier exhorted the delegates, while elders – Watitemjen Imchen, Nungsangwati Aier and Bendangsangba Aier – narrated about the history and lineage of the descendents of Tsungremchang at the programme.
