IMFL seized in Chümoukedima

Dimapur, December 3 (MExN): The District Excise, Dimapur duty party manning the check gate at Chümoukedima “based on specific intelligence input” detained a truck from amongst the convoy of 24 vehicles moving towards Kohima-Imphal from Dimapur area along the NH-29 on December 2 around 8:20 pm. 

“On inspection and frisking the vehicle (bearing regd No MN AA-0422), it was found to be laden with IMFL contraband concealed beneath sacks of corn and maize grains, District Excise, Dimapur informed in a press note. 

A total of 776 cases of IMFL were recovered from the vehicle. In this connection, two people identified as Thoithoi Meitei and Lusoi, both R/o Haley Amang Leika, Imphal, Manipur were arrested and booked under the relevant punitive sections of the NLTP Act 89’. 

“As per the investigation, the seized contrabands were originally bound for Imphal, Manipur,” it added. 

It may be mentioned that smugglers, bootleggers and traffickers often use the modus operandi of shipping illicit IMFL under the guise of carrying essential commodities taking advantage of the security cover provided by the state forces. “Effort should be made to subject all the commercial vehicle entries to a thorough screening process before providing them a safe passage,” District Excise, Dimapur added.
