Minister for Home Imkong L. Imchen said that Rs. 2792.93 lakhs and Rs. 2854. 56 lakhs has been received from the Government of India under police modernisation scheme during 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively.
Replying this to MLA Tokheho in the floor of the House, Imchen furnished the details of fund utilized during 2009-08 as; mobility- Rs. 4, 69, 01, 842, weaponry – Rs. 1, 65, 19, 236, training equipment – Rs. 29, 06, 028, modern communication system – Rs. 2, 07, 94, 504, FSL equipments – Rs. 74, 59, 375, office automation – Rs. 53, 98, 000, security equipments Gadgets & BDDS- Rs. 5, 36, 03, 031 and construction of police housing – Rs. 12, 57, 11, 000.
Also during 2008-09 as follows: mobility – Rs. 4, 23, 16, 179, training equipment – Rs. 42, 30, 000, modern communication system – Rs. 2, 22, 99,000, FSL equipments-Rs. 29, 62, 681, office automation – Rs. 37, 45,000, security equipments Gargets & BDDS- Rs. 9, 11,03,000 and construction of police housing – Rs. 11, 88,00,000.
The home minister also furnished the names of contractors, copies of work orders and also names of suppliers with copies of supply order.
On arms and ammunition, Imchen minister said that 450 nos of Rifle 7. 62 mm 1A1 and 1500 nos of Magazine for 7.62 SLR was procured during 2007- 08. During 2008- 09, it has also procured; Rifle 5.56 MM Insas- 300 nos, Mag for 5.56 MM Rifles – 1200 nos, 5.56 Cartridge- 15000 nos, 7.62 MM LMG – 30 nos, 7.62 MM Mag – 150 Nos, 7.62 MM Amn. for LMG- 60000 nos, 9 MM Carbine – 100 Nos, 9 MM Bal – 15000 nos, 9 MM Magazine – 300 nos, SLR 7.62 – 200 nos and Magazine for SLR- 800 nos.
In another question raised by MLA S I Jamir, the home minister furnished the number of armed and unarmed police in the state as follows; armed – 18612, unarmed- 4889, ministerial – 603 and NCE – 1370. He also stated that 816 police personnel were assigned to VIP duties and attached to various individuals. On being asked about the criteria followed to detail police personnel as bodyguard, Imchen said the criterion is issued by Home Ministry, Government of India, in the Yellow Book.
