Imkong’s expulsion from Cong revoked by AICC

DIMAPUR, JUNE 5 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee received a jolt with the party’s high command revoking the former’s earlier decision to expel I. Imkong from the party for six years. An ‘Order’ from the All India Congress Committee informing of the development was received here today through the NPCC. It was appended by Luizinho Faleiro, member CWC (Permanent Invitee), in charge of Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. a
“I am directed to convey that the Order dated 29.5.2011 of the President, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee removing Shri I. Imkong from the membership of the Congress party for six years, is hereby revoked… I. Imkong shall accordingly continue to be a member of the Congress Party”, the brief note read.
It may have come as a moral victory for I. Imkong but it certainly stunned some senior members of the NPCC as well as sitting Congress legislators. “It was not expected”, commented NPCC President SI Jamir when he was contacted over phone. Asked on what grounds it was revoked, he said: “We’re not sure on what grounds it was revoked.” Further queried on the NPCC’s stand on the order from the AICC, a cautious Jamir replied: “That we’ll have to discuss among ourselves”.
CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi was apparently unaware of the news till Sunday evening. When contacted, a surprised Yepthomi said he was not aware of such an order and was yet to be intimated on it. “We’ve not received any such order from the AICC,” he said.
So was former CLP leader Chingwang Konyak. When contacted, Konyak said he was presently in Delhi and was yet to receive any information about the development. Apok Jamir said he was aware of the order but said he had no idea why it was revoked. He declined to make further comments.
The tone was one of delight on the side of I. Imkong. “It was expected… from the very beginning I was confident justice will be done and I am grateful to the high command for doing justice.” Asked his comment on the decision, Imkong said: “It was the decision of the high command… I believe the high command is the sole authority” to make a comment. No further comments could be had from him.
A confident KL Chishi said that the order was the outcome of the NPCC president and the CLP leader going ahead with their “motive” to remove I. Imkong at the same time cautioning him, despite clear-cut instruction from the party high command to withdraw the show-cause notices served earlier. He added that the general secretary, AICC further advised them not to reply to the notice. “But they went ahead with an executive meeting with an intention to remove I. Imkong and caution me… that was their motive.”
He further brushed aside the allegations of breach of discipline during the party’s organizational elections. He said that there was no breach of discipline and “the AICC knew about it.” He added that there is no question of anybody playing anti-party politics during an “intra-party” election.
Further effort to reach Luizinho Faleiro for comments on the matter was unsuccessful, as his official phone number remained switched off.
