Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): After a long hiatus from his solo project, Nagaland singer-songwriter Imliakum Aier has returned with ‘Dimapur’, a tribute to the city that shaped his life, influenced his art and inspired countless stories. The song is the lead single from his forthcoming solo EP, scheduled for release later this year.
Widely regarded as one of Nagaland’s prominent contemporary songwriters, Imliakum Aier has earned recognition for his deeply personal and story-driven music that blends folk influences with poetic lyricism. Through acclaimed releases such as The Message From The Hills and Dancing in the Capital, he has built a loyal following by exploring themes of identity, faith and belonging.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Aier described ‘Dimapur’ as a tribute to the city that has been central to his personal and artistic journey.
“Dimapur is a song about the city that gave me everything. The city that made me, broke me, challenged me, and ultimately became a part of my identity,” he said.

He recalled growing up listening to artists sing about cities such as New York, Paris, and California, and dreaming of one day writing a song dedicated to his own hometown.
“This song is my way of celebrating Dimapur; not just for the world to hear about it, but for everyone whose stories, memories, friendships, and dreams are connected to this city. I don't think anyone leaves Dimapur unchanged,” he added.
Set to a music video of everyday moments, relationships, and quiet ordinary beauty, ‘Dimapur’ is both a personal reflection and a love letter to the city. The song celebrates the people, memories and experiences that make ‘Dimapur’ meaningful to those who have lived there.
The release also marks the beginning of a larger body of work, with ‘Dimapur’ setting the tone for his highly anticipated solo EP. According to the artist, the upcoming project will explore themes of home, nostalgia, love, and loss through his signature storytelling style.
With Dimapur, Aier not only returns to the spotlight as a solo artist but also offers a heartfelt ode to a city that continues to shape the lives and memories of generations.
