Nagaland holds training to deliberates on using water efficiently through micro irrigation 
 

 

Kohima, February 27 (MExN): A one-day state level training on micro-irrigation under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Yojana (PMKSY) was conducted on February 27, at the Conference Hall, Horticulture Directorate, Kohima. The programme was organized by Horticulture Department in collaboration with the North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Ministry of JAL SHAKTI, Government of India.

 


According to a DIPR report, while delivering the keynote address, Additional Director of Horticulture, Qhutovi Wotsa stated that climate change is effecting the whole world including, the Nagas and its impact on water supply is complex, and in fact most of the climate change impacts come down to water. Therefore, the training aims to deliberate on how to use water efficiently through micro Irrigation and how to reduce water wastage. 

 


Wotsa mentioned that through PMKSY scheme which was implemented by the Central Government the people will learn to improve their water use efficiency to reduce wastage of water. The guidelines to the scheme can be found in the PMKSY website. 

 


Associate Professor (WRE), NERIWALM & KVK, Dr UM Hazarika while giving the introductory note on NERIWALM mentioned the importance of the involvement of Information & Technology (IT) to improve the performance in technical sectors such as e-transactions, e-process etc. He also said that one of the main tasks of the NERIWALM is to provide consultancy service to the Government, local bodies and other organizations in Water and Land Management for irrigation and agriculture. NERIWALM focuses on promoting advancement of science and acquisition of scientific knowledge to provide instruction and training, demonstrations, in particular with water and land management for irrigation and agriculture.
Resource persons Associate Professor (WRE), NERIWALM & KVK, Dr UM Hazarika discussed on Water Use Efficiency in Micro Irrigation, Scientist, Arunjyoti Sonowal junior from College of Agriculture, AAU, Biswanath Chariali discussed on design of Micro Irrigation and Fertigation techniques and Maintenance of Micro Irrigation system, Young professional, Toushif Ali displayed Demonstration of Components of Drip Irrigation System during the technical session.
