Imperative that real peace is ushered in: NTC

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has urged the negotiators in the Indo-Naga peace talks to expedite the peace process and bring a logical conclusion that is acceptable and honourable to all within a definite time frame.

In a press release, the NTC lamented that the ongoing negotiation between the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and the GOI have been going on for the last 23 years without arriving at its conclusion. This, it stated, has created “anxiety,” and observed that there is an “atmosphere of uncertainty."

The NTC said it is imperative that real peace is ushered in. It noted that the Framework Agreement signed with the NSCN (IM) and the Preamble signed with the NNPGs WC are “significant achievements” and  urged upon all the signatories of the agreements to give sanctity to the historic documents.

It expressed happiness on the resumption of negotiation between the Interlocutor, GOI and the Working Committee of NNPGs that took place at Chumoukedima on July 24. “This resumption is a step towards achieving solution through agreement post October 31, 2019, commitment,” it added.

The NTC further appealed to the security forces and Naga Political Groups to strictly adhere to the already laid down Ceasefire ground rules.
