Imphal | December 5: The November 30 blast in Imphal was a failed attempt on the lives of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. This was disclosed on Monday by a little known underground group calling themselves as Military Defence Force (T). A rickshaw puller was killed and many injured that that incident.
On Monday, the Military Defence Force (T) claimed that the recent bomb blast at the main gate of Sangai Festival 2011 at Hatta Kangjeibung here was triggered by the outfit’s Militia Defence force under the command of its army chief Lanboi.
Md. Kora, who was killed in the explosion, did not notice that a bomb was wrapped in a bag which he was carrying on his rickshaw on that day and that the rickshaw puller was an innocent man, said the group’s publicity secretary Tiken in a statement.
The actual plan was that the cadre who hired the rickshaw was supposed to go with Kora and plant the bomb at Hatta Kangjeibung where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi were going to visit but the plan was changed as information was received that heavy security forces were present in and around the Sangai Festival venue.
The cadre told Kora to go ahead by himself and wait for him near the main gate and later the cadre entered near the site along with another cadre riding a two-wheeler to fit the bomb, the statement added.
However, the bomb accidentally exploded near the gate before it could target the Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, ministers and other officials of Indian government. The victim, Kora was an innocent bread earner of his poor family and he was not related with MDF (T) in anyway, the group clarified in the statement.
The incident actually occurred on November 30 morning the last day of Manipur tourism Sangai Festival while the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister was on December 3.
