Imphal, October 26 (NNN): Police in Imphal East district arrested the youth allegedly involved in snatching a service gun from the police during an altercation with dice (lagao) gamblers in Khurai area of Imphal East district on October 24 night.
A video clip showing some police personnel in uniform getting into an altercation with some unknown persons playing dice (lagao) at Khurai Lamlong area went viral on social media.
The video shows the gamblers snatching an AK rifle from a team of police personnel during the altercation.
However, Imphal East district police, in a statement on today (Wednesday) said that during the altercation, one AK rifle was snatched by one unknown person.
It was eventually returned by one elder lady present at the spot.
After getting the information, a team of Imphal East police comprising of additional SP (L&O), SDPO Porompat and OC of Porompat police station rushed to the spot in the next morning, around 9 am and identified the person who had snatched the AK rifle as one Tarzan Singh of Khurai.
The police arrested him after a brief chase in the afternoon of the same day, around 3.30 pm from Khurai.
The apprehended person was thoroughly interrogated and verified at Porompat police station.
However, no malafide intention could be established and hence released on PR bond after he was warned not to repeat the act in future.
