Importance of critical thinking in Naga society highlighted

Dr Thepfulhoukho Kuotsu, Assistant Professor, Patkai Christian College today stressed on the importance of critical thinking in Naga society and remarked ‘we are preoccupied with events without deeper reflection.’ 

Speaking at Phesama Students’ Union (PSU) 61st annual general conference in Phesama, Kohima on December 29, he commented that village republic is the key in the context of the Naga society, and that impact begins from the village. Therefore, students need to be visionaries and help propel a refined society as today's students are the valuable seeds for a better society tomorrow.

He further highlighted how the village is being transformed in a span of few decades, and asked students to move out of the comfort zone and create ethos and legacy. The speaker said students need to identify their strengths and limitations and further encouraged work culture and dignity of labour. 

Kuotsu while urging the students to stand for a noble cause, commented on influential personalities such as Mother Teresa, BR Ambedkar, Martin Luther King and challenged the students to start noble cause right from the grassroots level. 

Asking students not to limit ones aim in life to securing government jobs mansions and cars, the speaker lamented that we still rely and depend a lot on the government. Hence, Kuotsu challenged the students to move beyond the box and make valuable impact and leave a long lasting legacy. He also encouraged everyone, especially the student community to protect and preserve the ecosystem and avoid exploitation of natural resources at the same time be the voice of truth.

The programme was chaired by Vikuosalie Zashümo and Mhasikhoto Chuse gave the Presidential address.  The inaugural session was followed by literary events and competitions for the school children. 

In the drawing competition, Uneitsono of Class A, Visabeino of class 3 and Keletho of Class 4 have secured the first Position in their respective categories. In spelling bee, Henry Viseto Zashümo secured the first place and Dezevino Zashümo came as the runners up held for classes 6-8. In folk story writing, Thejano Zashümo, Lozino Lucy Zashümo and Zeneikhono have secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Lhoushevikho Lhoushe, Joint director, Department of Industries as the resource person was the speaker in the closing session.
