Improve railway services, PB Acharya urges

Kohima, August 10 (DIPR): Governor of Assam & Nagaland, PB Acharya has asked the General Manager of North East Frontier Railway (NFR) and other railway officers to be more people friendly and upgrade services as per the need of the passengers.  

The Governor had called the NFR General Manager, Chahetey Ram along with other officers of the Railways to Raj Bhawan on August 8 to know about the Railways’ performance in North East and the various ongoing projects that NFR has undertaken for the people of the region.  

Acharya advocated that the railway authorities should make use of the latest technologies to improve the services of the railways, according to a press release from Raj Bhavan, Kohima. He also said that all the model stations should have all modern amenities, including technological solutions, for the convenience of the railway commuters.  

He asked the officers to make co-operative societies to make railways an industry driven by the power of the people and help railways play a constructive role for the empowerment of the society. He also advised the General Manager to conceive new marketing policies which will create emotional integration among all the geographical entities that the railways traverse. The Governor also asked the officials to tie up with the universities for skill education.

  Acharya also expressed concern over the snail paced progress of railway extension works in Nagaland and asked the authorities to lay more emphasis on the extension project and develop a well-concerted railway connectivity in Nagaland. He also stressed on taking up development projects for Dimapur Railway Station. The Governor also asked the General Manager to incorporate Dimapur in the ‘clean train stations’ category along with Katihar, New Jalpaiguri, and Guwahati. He further asked the railway authorities to create more ticket counters in Dimapur to cater to the needs of the passengers.  

Meanwhile, Acharya urged the officers to be proactive in solving various issues and expedite the execution of the development projects on a fast track basis for the benefit of the people of the North East.
