NECU, Patkai webinar examines ‘Lifelong Learning in the Light of NEP 2020’
DIMAPUR, APRIL 30 (MExN): A webinar on the theme, ‘Lifelong Learning in the Light of NEP 2020’ organised by the North East Christian University (NECU) in collaboration with Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) on April 29.
According to a press release received from PCC Mass Communication, resource person Prof VK Shrotryia, Professor, Delhi School of Economics speaking on the theme maintained that learning is an ongoing process and in the 21st century, the illiterates are not those who never went to school but who stopped learning.
Prof Shrotryia highlighted that there are two types of infra structures- physical and non-physical infrastructure. Under non-physical infrastructure, we prepare researchers and students to have broader thinking, he noted.
The objective of the National Education Policy (2020), Prof Shrotryia elaborated is to prepare students to become job creators and not job seekers. “Students must create industries, become entrepreneur, create institutions and contribute for the cause,” he added.
He also asserted that Education is not a transaction but an experience and if the teachers are involved in giving that experience to students, the students will take up the responsibility of the nation. He further postulated that the world is moving from C to C- from compulsion to choice. There is no more compulsion but there is choice-based environment, he said.
“We can do what we want to do. You can take up music with B. Sc if that's what you like to do or physics with entrepreneurship or skill of your choice. One can come out of the traditional thinking and pursue any career of one's choice.”
In this connection, Prof Shrotryia questioned why market must dictate the young people.
“We can design the market according to our choice,” he added, further noting that the future of India looks bright when we enjoy the fruits of NEP 2020.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Tripura University, Prof GP Prasain who was the chief guest highlighted that that there are various courses under NEP 2020 which can be taken as lifelong learning process. It is not possible to give jobs to every graduate; therefore, students need to be self-employed. According to this Policy, every student is compulsory to learn one skill paper, he added.
The webinar was chaired by Dr Partakson Romun Chiru of NECU while Dr Razoukhrulu Curhah of PCC proposed the vote of thanks.
