Our attention is drawn to a write up “what’s in a Name? Dimapur and Chümoukedima” by one Inavi Jimomi, dated 10th January 2022 that was published in Morung Express, a rather interesting character who took it upon himself to rewrite the History of the Angamis and Chümoukedima in particular. We do not know who this person is or what he does but as responsible members, we would advice him to do proper research on Historical facts and evidences instead of using one’s own imagination, there’s no dearth of historical accounts by many historians, writers, personal journals and tour diaries of British officers and even by prominent Nagas researchers and writers. While commending his keen interest for Chümoukedima and its history, we express our disappointment at his haste in delving into history using only his vivid imagination, the entire write up has only managed to offend and belittle the well documented history of an entire community and no individual or group in their right state of mind, should indulge in such callous behaviour.
We are living in times where information is readily accessible at a click, but the writer has preferred to ignore all historical facts that are available in public domain for reason best known to him. The write up is not supported by any documented references and strewn with erroneous details about Chümoukedima, perhaps the writer knows that Historical evidences does not support his claims and therefore he choose to conveniently ignore such details. The writer have also claimed to have sat down with many storytellers but he never once mentioned if he have met any Angami or Chümoukedima people to hear their version and that is baffling because he seem to have engaged with all the great storytellers except the very people he was intending to write about.
We advice Inavi Jimomi to spare some time and go through the article issued by Chümoukedima Village Council dated 06th January 2022 in all leading dailies, which has in great detail narrated the history of Chümoukedima with sufficient evidences and references, we are confident that it will really boost his quest for knowledge about Chümoukedima and its history.
It is established that the narration of the writer is unfounded and is only a figment of his imagination, and we are left in utter disbelief on why a person would so keenly present a distorted and false version of Chümoukedima History publicly, the attempt to disparage our History perhaps originated from the writer’s own prejudice towards certain people or places, and it is very irresponsible on his part to pass off his fictitious narration as an account of Chümoukedima History and trying to mislead the readers with false information. However, we wholehearted welcome any person interested in the history of our Village; it will be our greatest honour to engage and share the documents over such a discourse.
Lastly, we advice Inavi Jimomi as a fellow being to not waste precious time boding unproductive schemes or needlessly engaging in activities that has the tendency to offend or demean other communities. We wish Inavi Jimomi well and hope that he will not indulge in such behaviour in the future.
