DIMAPUR, JULY 5 (MExN): Peeved by inaction, a student body today demanded that the two elected MLAs from Peren district and all in the rank and file of the NSCN (I-M) Zeliangrong region resign immediately. The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union made the demand citing “failure to protect and preserve the Ntangki National Park and Zeliangrong ancestral lands on all fronts. They have miserably failed to guard the people’s interest and welfare, even after a series of appeal and demonstration in the form of protests and agitations.” The elected officials and the NSCN (I-M) men have therefore been asked to “quit gracefully on moral grounds.”
The students, who arrived at announcing this decision during a recently held meeting, also resolved to direct the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur to disassociate from the activities of the All Naga Students Association Manipur (Ansam), since the latter failed to “deliver justice to the people, particularly to the Zeliangrong students on several occasions.” The union however added that it would continue its unflinching support towards the Naga national cause.
A unanimous decision passed by the house included denouncing the Naga Hoho’s ‘white paper’ and the ‘GPRN Calendar 2007’ “for distorting the history.” “The members vehemently condemned the policy to divide the Zeliangrong people” and as such, has called upon all “all sections of peoples and particularly those authors to rectify it and not to mislead the people.”
The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union further reaffirmed to continue working for peaceful co-existence in Naga society and appealed to all ‘national workers’ to shun violence and work for unity and reconciliation.
