Incessant rain damages roads; causes traffic jam

Following the incessant downpour for the past few days, mudslides and sinking of certain areas along NH-29 are posing grave threat to the commuters between Kohima and Dimapur.

Yet, vehicles are plying as usual.

The main concern is the sinking areas below Naga Hospital, below Para Medical, old landslide area at old KMC dumping site and near Dzuza Bridge on the stretch of road from Kohima to Dimapur.

The major landslide which occurred last year in Phesama village along NH 29 is also posing threat as there is continuous mudslide from above the road in the area.

BRTF personnel were seen clearing the road at several places, including right below Naga Hospital Kohima and below Para Medical where half portion of the road is already damaged and may deteriorate if there is continuous rainfall. Mud was seen continuously sliding from above the road at old KMC dumping site.

On the other hand, disruption of traffic on NH-29 has badly affected commuters particularly those plying between Kohima and Dimapur. Due to slow vehicular movement in the affected roads, heavy traffic jam occurred from TCP gate to bypass police check gate and from NHK junction to Tinpati here on Monday.

Mudslides were also reported in many areas of the state capital Kohima.

In Phek district, vehicular movement along Losami village junction to Phek district headquarters has been affected due to landslide. The commuters are now taking the main road via Lanye.
