Kolkata-bound passengers of an Air India flight were made to wait for hours after checking in at the Dimapur airport today. The passengers were later told that the scheduled flight had to be cancelled owing to inclement weather in Kolkata.
“The passengers checked in for the scheduled 1:00-1:30pm flight but the flight from Kolkata could not arrive and had to be cancelled for the day,” said an airport staffer.
The information about the final cancellation was said to have come only at around 5:00 pm after which passenger luggage was handed back.
While the reason for the cancellation was valid enough, the passengers were dejected that fellow passengers who had booked an Indigo flight for the same day could take off.
The staffer said that the Indigo flight arrived and left at around 2:30 pm. It was originally scheduled to arrive around noon but owing to the weather in Kolkata its arrival in Dimapur was delayed by a couple of hours.
It was further informed that Monday’s AI flight to Kolkata has been rescheduled for Tuesday. The flight, according to the information, is scheduled for a 10:30am arrival time.
Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed Kolktata on Monday flooding several areas in the metro. As per an NDTV report, “Bad weather has also hit the Kolkata airport with several in-bound flights diverted and delay in out-bound flights. Several passengers were stuck at the airport for hours.”
