KOHIMA, APRIL 20 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya has written a letter to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to include Mon district in the Transformation Aspirational District Programme for quick and effective transformation of “backward” districts of the country.
Congratulating the Prime Minster on launching the programme, the Governor explained that Mon district, with its large population, is still underdeveloped. The Governor opined that inclusion of Mon along with Kiphire in the Transformation Aspirational District Programme will be beneficial not only for the two districts but for the State as a whole.
Earlier the Governor Acharya was briefed on the Aspirational District Programme by Prabhari Officer of the programme, Sanjay Kumar, IAS during his visit to the State. Sanjay Kumar explained that the programme was launched by the Prime Minister in January 2018 with aims to quickly and effectively transform the selected districts, raising the living standards of its citizens and ensuring inclusive growth for all. With States as the main drivers, the program will focus on the strength of each district, identify low-hanging fruits for immediate improvement, measure progress, and rank districts, he added.
The Governor requested the Prabhari Officer to inform him once a month on the matter related to the programme. Governor Acharya also discussed this matter with the Chief Minister of Nagaland during their meeting earlier in the week.
This was informed in a press note from the PRO to the Governor.
