Increasing awareness on issues related to population

Peren, July 11 (MExN): World Population Day (WPD) was observed in Peren on July 11 at CHC Jalukie with the theme ‘take responsibility towards family planning-prepare for the wellbeing of mother and child.’ The programme was attended by the members of Puidi Ma and Jalukie Town Women Welfare Organizations and HCMC members.

Chairing the programme, Pezanguno Celine Secü, District Media Officer CMO Office Peren welcomed the participants. Invocation was pronounced by Mongzeung Mpom, Pastor, Jalukie Town Local Baptist Church.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr M Nukshisangla Jamir, DPO UIP/RCH gave a brief talk on why WPD is observed and its significance stating that It is started by the United Nations Governing Council of the United Nations Development Program to encourage events, activities and to spread information to make the right to population control a reality across the world. 

Jamir highlighted that the objectives of WPD is to protect and empower youths, both males and females, offer knowledge on sexuality, to delay age of marriages till a responsible age is attained, educate youths to avoid unwanted pregnancies, remove gender stereotypes, educate on pregnancy related illnesses and dangers of childbirths at an early age, Educate on STIs, RTIs, HIV/AIDS, demand effective laws and policy implementation to protect the rights of s girl child, access to universal primary education for all children and as a public health approach to access reproductive health services at all health facilities. 

She also highlighted that WPD celebration aims to increase awareness on issues related to population control such as, family planning, gender equality, maternal health, poverty alleviation, need for population control and Human rights.

She stress on the point that working in a government set up it is a social responsibility to create awareness on this pertinent issue of population control and population stabilization fortnight (July 11 to 24) and highlighted about the activities focusing to undertake during the fortnight in the district. She call upon all the participants present to take home the message of importance of WPD celebration and encourage each other on the burning issues of population control and stabilization. All eligible women in the reproductive age group between 15-45 years can come and avail the services in the HUs upto the level of SCs during the fortnight.

Exhorting the gathering Tinu Jongshi, ADC Jalukie expressed gratitude and acknowledged the participants for attending the program. He stated that stakeholder’s participation and cooperation is very important for disseminating information for such global observance program and suggested for more community/stakeholder’s participants in the future. He also said that it’s high time to take responsibility in creating more awareness on Population stabilization. He further stress on the importance of gender equality in our society, saying equal ratio leads to equal love and peace. 

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Phenriwangbou Newmai, MO CHC Jalukie.
