The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) government has doubled the operational subsidy and ex-gratia for accredited journalists in Nagaland under the state's Accredited Private Journalists Operational Assistance Scheme.
This was announced by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio while delivering his budget speech in the Assembly at the ongoing budget session.
Rio acknowledged that the press and media fraternity of the state has made significant contributions towards strengthening of democratic foundations in Nagaland.
“Freedom of press and opinion, reflection of the people's voice, along with fair and truthful reportage represent the very essence of journalism. Though there is always room for improvement in every sector, I am sure this House will agree with me that the press and media in Nagaland have carried out their responsibilities in exemplary manner,” he stated.
The CM called upon the members of the fourth estate to join hands with the House in serving the citizens in a responsible manner.
Rio also announced that the PDA government stood committed towards the welfare of the differently-abled and those facing mental health challenges. Towards this, he assured that the new government will give efforts to make government infrastructures barrier-free and provide special education teachers in all the districts.
