Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): The Sand Stockists and Suppliers Union, Dimapur (SSSUD) on Tuesday decided to call an ‘indefinite bandh’ of sand supply in Nagaland after stockists in Karbi Anglong announced a hike in sand prices. Earlier on September 6, the Sand Mahaldar and Supplier Association (SM&SA), Karbi Anglong, had informed that the price of sand per cubic feet (CFT) would be hiked to Rs 110 per CFT, superseding all previous orders. Subsequently, the SSSUD held a meeting and decided to call for indefinite bandh of sand supply to Nagaland until and unless the sand price is revoked immediately, a press release informed. The union claimed that unlike previous years, the new price was fixed without any consultation with SSSUD. As such it appealed to the general public to “tolerate for some time” until the matter is resolved amicably. It also requested the district administration and the police authority to support the bandh, which it said, would eventually benefit the public.
