‘Independence to us is meaningless, if we are unable to transform situations into opportunities that could make us self-sufficient and self dependent,’ said Hovishe Achumi, General Secretary of All Nagaland Private Bus Union at the DNSU office here today.

Gracing the flagging-off ceremony for an educational tour of the Diphupar Naga Students’ Union here at 4th mile, Hovishe reminded the students that sovereignty or independence would be of little use if ‘we fail to cultivate the ethics of work and resources that could provide sustainable employment opportunities’.

Referring to the some youth who joined the Naga movement as an alternative to unemployment, Hovishe said that one needs to create more alternatives that could enrich the society and build resources of opportunities.

Advising the students to make the most from the educational tour, Hovishe said that real education is  within  interaction and communication that one opens  up to with different and various sections of the society. “I believe that you will carry with each one of you the torchlight of our Naga people’s struggle and share the same in your interaction with His Excellency the Governor of Goa,” the trade leader said.

Hovishe also donated Rs 10,000 to the students for ‘tea expenses’ while DVC chairman donated Rs 5000.

Among those who spoke at the function included DVC Chairman K Kapfo, DNSU President Philip Lotha, pastor of Chakhesang Baptist Church and Aben Lotha.

The Diphupar Naga Students’ Union, led by tour guide John Kikon, today left for a 14-day educational tour to Goa and Bangalore with the aim to broaden their perspectives on the way of life in other parts of the country. 15 students are part of the educational tour, which is the first ever tour undertaken by the DNSU.
