DIMAPUR, SEPT 12 (MExN): Abdesh DD Singh has never made use of a condom, at least according to him. An auto-rickshaw driver by profession, he says he may never feel the need to employ one because he is committed to his wife. And after attending an HIV/AIDS awareness programme funded by the Indian Oil Corporation and the North East Drug/HIV Training Centre at Dimapur today, he assures to enlighten his friends on the methods of transmission of the virus and how prevention can be made for the syndrome which has no cure.
The classroom, in today’s case, was a makeshift tent erected at an IOC outlet situated at Fellowship Colony. At least 200 cab drivers availed of the awareness program where representatives of the NEDHIV demonstrated and explained the lessons to be learnt on HIV/AIDS, assisted by a computer-generated slide show. Condoms of varied flavours were also promoted and sold.
Temsuzulu, Deputy Manager (Sales) of the IOC’s Dimapur Sales Area, informed that the present program is being carried out as one of the initiatives undertaken by the company towards customer service excellence. Tomorrow, the IOC-NEDHIV combine travels to nearby Jharnapani to conduct a similar programme for truck drivers.
Jiji Joseph of NEDHIV feels that the funding of such a programme by a business concern is a great form of encouragement. “We get a platform to work,” he told The Morung Express.
